Governor's Office of Highway Safety FY2017 STEP (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Related Equipment Contract No. 2017-PT-019.

Background Information

On March 30, 2016, the Gila County Sheriff's Office electronically submitted the FY2017 STEP Enforcement Related Equipment Grant Application. On April 19, 2016, the Board of Supervisors authorized the Sheriff's Office electronic submission of the grant application to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) in the amount of $21,675.40 to purchase (10) Golden Eagle II radars for DUI enforcement.

Evaluation

The Gila County Sheriff's Office was awarded GOHS Contract No. 2017-PT-019 in the amount of $11,000 to be used to purchase five radar units to enhance the STEP throughout Gila County.

Conclusion

The Gila County Sheriff's Office has been awarded a grant from the GOHS in the amount of $11,000 that will be used to purchase five radar units; however, GOHS Contract No. 2017-PT-019 must first be signed by the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors.

Recommendation

Gila County Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd recommends that the Board of Supervisors accept the Governor's Office of Highway Safety FY2017 Speed Enforcement Contract No. 2017-PT-019 in the amount of $11,000 for the purchase of five radar units of which said funds must be spent by September 30, 2017.

Suggested Motion

Authorize the Chairman's signature on Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) Contract No. 2017-PT-019 to accept GOHS grant funds in the amount of $11,000 which will be used by the Sheriff's Office to purchase five Golden Eagle II radars for speed related enforcement activities.
