Governor's Office of Highway Safety Contract No. 2017-AL-052 for DUI/Impaired Driving Enforcement Related Equipment.

Background Information

On November 17, 2015, the Gila County Board of Supervisors approved a Memorandum of Understanding Agreement No. 2015-405D-502 between the Governor's Office of Highway Safety and the Gila County Sheriff's Office for a regional DUI (Driving Under the Influence) vehicle. On December 7, 2015, the Gila County Sheriff's Office submitted a request to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety for an intoxilyzer 8000, which will be installed in the regional DUI van. On February 16, 2016, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract No. 2016-AL-085 between the Governor's Office of Highway Safety and the Gila County Sheriff's Office for $8,105 to purchase an intoxilyzer 8000, to be installed in the regional DUI van. The funds were unable to be expended by the September 30, 2016, deadline. The Governor's Office of Highway Safety replaced Contract No. 2016-AL-085 with Contract No. 2017-AL-052 for $8,105 for a performance period of October 1, 2016, through September 30, 2017, for an intoxilyzer 8000 to be installed in the regional DUI van.

Evaluation

The Gila County Sheriff's Office was awarded GOHS Contract No. 2017-AL-052 in the amount of $8,105 to be used to purchase one intoxilyzer unit to enhance DUI/Impaired Driving Enforcement throughout Gila County.

Conclusion

The Gila County Sheriff's Office has been awarded a grant from the GOHS in the amount of $8,105 that will be used to purchase one intoxilyzer unit; however, GOHS Contract No. 2017-AL-052 must first be signed by the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors.

Recommendation

Gila County Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd recommends that the Board of Supervisor's accept the Governor's Office of Highway Safety FY2017 DUI/Impaired Driving Enforcement Related Equipment Contract No. 2017-AL-052 in the amount of $8,105 for the purchase of one intoxilyzer unit of which said funds must be spent by September 30, 2017.

Suggested Motion

Authorize the Chairman's signature on Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) Contract No. 2017-AL-052 to accept GOHS grant funds in the amount of $8,105, which will be used by the Sheriff's Office to purchase one intoxilyzer unit to be installed in the regional DUI van to enhance DUI/impaired driving enforcement throughout Gila County.
