Request/Subject

Governor's proclamation for the November 4, 2014, General Election.

Background Information

In accordance with Arizona Revised Statute (A.R.S.) §16-214, Governor Janice K. Brewer issued a proclamation containing a statement of the time of election and the offices to be filled for the November 4, 2014, General Election.

In accordance with that same statute, a copy of the proclamation was sent "to the officer in charge of elections of the several counties." Eric Mariscal, Gila County Elections Director, received the proclamation.

Evaluation

A.R.S. §16-214 (C) states, "The board of supervisors shall be notified by the officer in charge of elections of receipt of the election proclamation, and within five days after its receipt the board shall meet and publish a copy thereof in an official newspaper of the county at least ten days before a general election."

Conclusion

The Elections Director has presented the Board of Supervisors with the proclamation signed by Governor Janice K. Brewer for the November 4, 2014, General Election with a request to publish the proclamation in the October 15th edition of Arizona Silver Belt newspaper, which is the official newspaper of Gila County for 2014.

Recommendation

The Elections Director recommends the Board's acceptance of the Governor's proclamation, and authorize its publication in the October 15th edition of the Arizona Silver Belt newspaper.

Suggested Motion

Acknowledge the receipt of Governor Janice K. Brewer's proclamation for the November 4, 2014, General Election and authorize the publication of the proclamation, both in English and Spanish, in the October 15th edition of the Arizona Silver Belt newspaper.
