Gila County Sheriff's Office 12D Fund Application to the Apache Gold Casino Resort and San Carlos Apache Tribe.
Background Information
Pursuant to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988, the San Carlos Apache Tribe entered into a compact agreement for the purposes of governing all Class III gaming activities conducted within the territorial jurisdiction of the Tribe.  In accordance with Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact under Section 12D, the San Carlos Apache Tribe shall make 12% of its total contribution in either or both of the following forms:  1) Distributions to cities, towns or counties for government services that benefit the general public, including public safety, mitigation of impact of gaming, or promotion of commerce and economic development.  2) Deposits to the Commerce of Economic Development Commission Local Communities Fund established by A.R.S. §41-1505.12.
Evaluation
An application and review selection process was created for the parties interested in potentially being awarded 12D funds. The12D Fund Application must be submitted to the Apache Gold Casino Resort and the San Carlos Apache Tribe by no later than October 11, 2014, and the selections will be made shortly thereafter.
Conclusion
The Gila County Sheriff's Office wishes to apply for $20,000 of 12D funds through the Apache Gold Casino Resort and the San Carlos Apache Tribe for the purchase of undercover surveillance equipment and tactical firearms equipment for the use by the Sheriff's Office (S.O.) and S.O. Drug, Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force.
Recommendation
It is the recommendation of Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd that the Board of Supervisors authorize the Sheriff's Office to submit a 12D Fund Application in the amount of $20,000 to the Apache Gold Casino Resort and San Carlos Apache Tribe.
Suggested Motion
Information/Discussion/Action authorizing the Gila County Sheriff's Office to submit a 12D Fund Application in the amount of $20,000 to the Apache Gold Casino Resort and San Carlos Apache Tribe which, if approved, will be used to purchase undercover surveillance equipment and tactical firearms equipment.  (Travis Baxley)
