A Citizen's Petition to Begin the Process to Establish Orient Drive as a Country Dirt Road

Background Information

Gila County Public Works Policy No. ENG03-04 adopted by the Board of Supervisors on October 7, 2003, and most recently revised on May 24, 2007, establishes policies and procedures for accepting certain dirt roads in the County as country dirt roads. The initial step in the procedure is a Citizen's Petition to begin the process to establish a "Country Dirt Road." The Engineering Department has received a Citizen's Petition to being the process to establish Orient Drive as a Country Dirt Road.

Evaluation

After reviewing the Petition and supporting documentation for Orient Drive, the Engineering Department has determined that it meets the initial requirements to be designated as a Country Dirt Road.

Conclusion

After determining that the Petition meets the requirements for a Country Dirt Road, the next step in the process is to present the Petition to the Board of Supervisors to either accept or reject the Petition. If the Petition is rejected, no further action is taken and the road remains private. If the Petition is accepted, the Engineering Department will prepare a map of the road and easement documents of property owners along the road for the petitioner to use to collect the necessary signatures required to grant an easement of the road to Gila County.

Recommendation

It is the recommendation of the Deputy Director of Public Works that the Board accept a Citizen's Petition to begin the process to establish Orient Drive as a County Dirt Road.
