FY 2022 Appointment of Superior Court Judges Pro Tempore.

Background Information

The Court is authorized, with approval from the Gila County Board of Supervisors and upon appointment by the Arizona Supreme Court, to employ Superior Court Judges Pro Tempore in the management of judicial operations. The Court is seeking reappointment of four Superior Court Judges Pro Tempore: Mr. Joe Albo; Ms. Daisy Flores; Mr. Gary V. Scales; and Mr. David E. Wolak. Mr. Albo and Ms. Flores would serve without compensation, and would be utilized on an “as-needed” basis. Mr. Scales and Mr. Wolak would be compensated in accordance with the Court budget levels. All re-appointments, if approved, would be effective for the period of July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022.

Evaluation

The reappointment of the Superior Court Judges Pro Tempore would expand the court’s current capacity to hear cases and allow the court to process matters in a timely manner.

Conclusion

The Court requires the Board of Supervisors’ approval for the appointment of the four candidates to serve as Superior Court Judges Pro Tempore for the period of July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022.

Recommendation

The Court respectfully recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve Presiding Judge Timothy M. Wright’s request for the reappointment of the Judge Pro Tempore candidates for the period stated above.

Suggested Motion

Approval of the appointments of Mr. Joe Albo; Ms. Daisy Flores; Mr. Gary V. Scales; and Mr. David E. Wolak as Judges Pro Tempore for the period from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.
