Vote to go into Executive Session pursuant to A.R.S. § 38-431.03 (A) (1) and (3) to consider individuals who would best fill the vacancy of the Honorable Tommie Cline Martin, Gila County District 1 Supervisor, including those who have expressed an interest in filling the vacancy, and for discussion or consultation for legal advice with the attorney or attorneys of the public body.

Background Information

The Board of Supervisors is deeply saddened by the passing of the Honorable Tommie Cline Martin, Gila County District 1 Supervisor, on December 10, 2020. Supervisor Martin was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2004 and she was recently re-elected to serve another 4-year term of office beginning January 1, 2021. The Board of Supervisors would like to convene into an Executive Session pursuant to A.R.S. § 38-431.03 (A) (1) and (3) to consider individuals who would best fill the vacancy, including those who have expressed an interest in filling the vacancy, and for discussion or consultation for legal advice with the attorney or attorneys of the public body.

Evaluation

The Honorable Tommie Cline Martin, Gila County District 1 Supervisor, unexpectedly passed on December 10, 2020. The Board of Supervisors needs to consider appointing an individual to fill the vacancy. Supervisor Martin was recently re-elected to serve another 4-year term of office beginning January 1, 2021. The board would benefit from discussion or consultation for legal advice with its attorney or attorneys.

Conclusion

The Board of Supervisors needs to consider individuals who would best fill the vacancy created by the passing of the Honorable Tommie Cline Martin, District 1 Supervisor, including those who have expressed an interest in filling the vacancy, and when reconvened into the Regular Meeting, make the appointment of a new Supervisor. The board would benefit from discussion or consultation with its attorney or attorneys.

Information/Discussion/Action to vote to go into executive session pursuant to A.R.S. § 38-431.03 (A) (1) and (3) to engage in discussion or consultation for legal advice with the attorney or attorneys of the Board of Supervisors and to consider those individuals who may best fill the vacancy created by the passing of the Honorable Tommie Cline Martin, District 1 Supervisor, and when reconvened into the Regular Meeting, appoint a new District 1 Supervisor.
