Request/Subject

Approval to accept a grant award from the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee in the amount of $7,000 to be used for a low cost spay/neuter program in Gila County.

Background Information

On August 7, 2018, the Board of Supervisors authorized the submittal of a grant application in the amount of $10,000 to the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee which, if approved, will be used to ensure that all animals leaving the County animal shelter will be surgically altered by offering a fully discounted spay/neuter procedure through a licensed veterinarian.

On December 11, 2018, Gila County received the award letter from the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee in the amount of $7,000.

Evaluation

Gila County Animal Care & Control currently has a low cost spay/neuter program and this funding will allow the County to expand the program and continue to offer the fully discounted spay/neuter services to more residents.

Conclusion

This grant award will benefit the residents of Gila County by providing $7,000 in funding for spaying/neutering dogs and cats.

Recommendation

It is the recommendation of the Gila County Health & Emergency Management Department Director that the Board of Supervisors accept the grant award from the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee.

Suggested Motion

Acceptance of a grant award from the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee in the amount of $7,000 that will be used to expand Gila County's discounted spay/neuter services in Gila County for a period of one year.
